The Cat & Dog head pushes that cleaning performance up another notch, and not just for pet detritus. The beating action of the brush bar agitates dust and dirt free from the carpet pile, cleaning carpets deeper and more efficiently than is possible with the standard EcoTeq head. If you ask people who already own a Miele vacuum how long they’ve had it. Most of them will tell you they’ve had it for at least 10 years!

Finally, it’s got a dual air filter in it to make the air in your house feel fresher. Not a bag choice at all when it comes to a robot vacuum. Here, the CX1’s dramatic lines are finished in a bold crimson that complements the grey trim and large, 2-litre crystal clear bin at the vacuum’s rear. At the top of the bin assembly is a removable panel with gauze filter in the middle of the single cyclone stage. It comes in 3 models, the basic, cat and dog, and excellence, all of which are great choices but the I like the basic model, more than enough cleaning power for most homes. The Silence AirClean filter acts as a silencer for your vacuum, muffling motor and suction noises as you clean. Hugely beneficial if one or more household members work from home or if you have pets/children sensitive to loud noises. All of those coolness does come at a cost though, it’s an expensive vacuum, but it actually does as good a job as a regular vacuum cleaner so all you have to do is empty it and you’re house will clean itself.None of the CX1 models are really great for stair cleaning, but the Cat & Dog nudges into the lead here thanks to the extra manoeuvrability of the Cat & Dog head.

However, the Miele robot vac is still a good one, my quibbles are with all robot vacs, not just this one. It’s got an excellent run time of 2 hours and can make its way around 150 square meters of floor. Plastic not so fantastic - feels cheap and like bits are going to snap off with dust container removal and brush nozzle fitted to handle.Miele put the work into the durability of their vacuum cleaners and it pays off in a vacuum that’s built to last. Alternatively, you could opt for Miele's other bagless cylinder vacuum cleaner range, the Miele Blizzard, which features twice as much capacity, and an extra metre of cable length and has a much more sensible on-body storage system for the attachments. The downside is that it weighs 2.9kg more than the Boost CX1 (8.7kg vs 5.8kg). So if you’re looking for a canister vacuum it’s Miele every time but if you want an upright then go with Shark.

The Active AirClean filter features active charcoal for neutralising unpleasant odours in the air – ideal for pet owners or smokers. Never experience the awkwardness of visitors noticing the unwanted smells you may have grown accustomed to. A lot of people who are replacing their Miele vacuums are usually disappointed to have to downgrade from a 1200w motor to a 900w motor. Won’t the suction be so much worse? hard floor head squeaks loudly with every stroke, while annoying and painful to hear, this is only an inconvenience The CX1’s curved handle allows the hose to exit underneath and rotate. Both features are designed to reduce wrist strain. It’s fitted with a good-sized, pull-down dusting brush. It’s a neat design, but the integration into the handle does mean the brush can’t be used with the tubes for long-distance dusting. For that you’ll need to use either the crevice tool or the small upholstery brush, both of which are stored on the rear end of the cleaner’s body.

The only thing you have to do is make sure you clean out the filter every 6 months. And if you’re in a house with long hair then you’ll need to clean out the brush that will get wrapped with hair. But a small price to pay for an appliance that could last you 20 years. Henry Hoovers are similar in price to the basic C1 model but if you’re wanting a better vacuum it’s going to cost more for a Miele.
