It took a while before I picked this book up, I was just not in the right headspace for it, but once I started reading, I had trouble putting it down. Life inside Auschwitz/ Birkenau was horrifying and to hear about what happened to the mothers and pregnant woman in that camp was inhumane. In this record she mentions the meeting with Mengele who requested from her a report about childbed fever cases and cases of death during the accouchements.

The Midwife of Auschwitz: Inspired by a heartbreaking true

She is happy in her marriage and has three strapping sons who are all forging their paths in the world. She reported that 30 babies survived until the liberation of the death camp on 27 January 1945, although other accounts suggest 60 babies were in the camp at liberation.

He assigned her to work in the camp’s “maternity ward,” a set of filthy barracks that was less a place to care for pregnant women than a place to usher them into death. I really loved this book because it the love the two main characters had for each other and their families was beautiful. Pero, sin embargo, nos trae un mensaje de optimismo y fe en la Humanidad y la bondad intrínseca a ella. Her husband, a printer, and sons prepared false documents for Jews living in the ghetto, and Stanisława distributed food for them, taking advantage of her work as a midwife to gain access to the ghetto.

They represent a complex jigsaw of vulnerable human emotions, which are laid bare when the fragility of the lines between life and death, defeat and survival, love and hate, trust and duplicity, the frailty of the human mind and indeed their very existence, are drawn. The film is based on the real life story of Stanisława Leszczyńska whose actions helped save newborns from immediate extermination. The production is currently in its scriptwriting phase after which a working title and actors will be chosen. Mankind never learns the futility of war or the value of those different from themselves, even in small ways. Eso sí, siempre que estas madres puedan “escapar” de ese momento de selección y puedan ocultar su embarazo hasta el momento del parto.

The synopsis stated that 'Fans of The Tattooist of Auschwitz, The Alice Network and The Nightingale will be gripped. I can't help but think of Ma when I read this book as she survived Auschwitz, but it never left her.
