Description

Radiator valve tails screw into the bottom of radiator tappings; they connect radiators with the valves that control the flow of water through a unit. To install a new type of valve, you may need to change a tail – most likely with a hexagon-shaped valve key, a universal key, a double-ended key or a combination wrench key. Draining the system

What size are standard rad tails? - BestHeating Advice Centre

As has been said above, it'll either leak or it won't. If it seals, it seals. So, pragmatically, your options are: I started to make up the tail using a 16mm ring spanner - approx 8" long. With about 3 threads to go I needed to switch to a 10" Bacho adjustable wrench to tighten the tail all the the way up. It took a bit of force, but nothing which felt excessive, albeit this is first time that I have fitted radiator tails. If your radiator is leaking water from the panel, then you will most likely need to replace the radiator. If the bleed screw is sitting in a bigger nut, then you can try tightening the nut with an adjustable spanner. When you buy a new radiator, especially if it’s one of the thousands we have on offer at Trade Radiators, you expect that once it arrives, you can get it hung on the wall and hooked up to your heating system in no time at all.

Assumign I have read your question correctly, I can't for the life of me fathom how you could have distorted the valve end of the tail while doing up the radiator end. Still, on the assumption that the valve end is a compression fitting, I'd wager that if you can still get a nut and olive on, and if you can still get the end of the tail into the valve, it'll seal just fine. If you want to be paranoid about it, wrap some PTFE around the fitting face of the olive. Once you have found exactly where the leak is coming from it should be a case of tightening the nut.

Removing and fitting valve tails - Designer Radiatorsdirect

It was the hardest of all the repairs made, because there was very little lateral movement in the copper pipe. Consider the size of the room, as larger spaces will likely require radiators with a higher heat output or maybe even multiple radiators in some cases. If unsure, try our heating calculator, which will help narrow down your search. Sometimes the tail will need to be replaced. If so you can follow the same steps above for replacing the PTFE tape. Radiator Bleed Valve Leaking Refit the tail and tighten with an adjustable spanner (make sure it’s very tight or it will leak, add more PTFE if it’s not tight enough)Open the bleed screw with a bleed key to release the pressure and catch the water until stops coming out Do you have to screw the tail in until the entire threaded section of the tail is screwed into the rad? Someone would need a radiator tail extension when their radiator cannot attach securely to the pipework. Here I’ll show you how to fix a leaking radiator valve from my on-the-job experiences. Where is the Radiator Valve Leaking From? Leaking Radiator Valve Nut You should definitely get a leaking radiator valve fixed as soon as possible, as water damage can really mess things up if left for any length of time. Can a leaking radiator valve cause boiler pressure to drop?
