About this deal

Now his world is turned upside down as he must find out if he's really to blame, or if something much more sinister is at play. All while staying one shaky step ahead of the law.

I adored this book and how it was written. There are no fancy frills or poetic moments here (except maybe for poetic justice, if that counts) – and yet my thoughts, feelings, and imagination were all held captive until the very end. What wife does that?? Every wife I know -including myself - would never keep a secret from my husband that a knife was found near my bed with a note saying.”I could have killed you”. Snap is an example of how you never truly know what someone is like or what they’re capable of. A brilliant read for me and one I definitely recommend! Have been on a roll with books this year. Quite a few are already in my Top Reads shelf ready to sort out at the end of the year. At this rate it’s going to be an impossible task. It’s hard to understand how the Man Booker judges could have deemed Snap to be of sufficient depth or imagination to merit its inclusion on the longlist. Even as a thriller, it’s much less thrilling than Michael Ondaatje’s Warlight. And it’s just hard to be thrilled when you come up against passages like this:

MY THOUGHTS: Bauer has a way of sneaking up on you. She doesn't rely on twists and turns to keep the reader interested. She gets inside the heads and hearts of her characters to provide a rich, deep and often humorous viewpoint. Unique, haunting…and bonkers. If I had to describe this book in a nutshell, that’s what comes to mind. And just so you know, I’m a big fan of bonkers. Thoroughly good, 4 stars plus! Great crime read, loved by many here as I see it. Great characters all round and highly entertaining, keeps you on the end of your seat. I think it is an unusual book to be longlisted for the Man Booker Prize, as I understand it, but I like it! So... recommended! Bauer secures her place as a star in the British psychological-suspense firmament with this tightly written tale . . . Readers who miss Ruth Rendell are sure to become fast Bauer fans.”— Booklist (starred review) It was always there, like an itch. Sometimes low and ignored, sometimes so big and sore that his slight frame could not contain it, and it burst like a boil, spewing violence and bitter hatred that left him hollow. Another sweltering month in Charlotte, another boatload of mysteries past and present for overworked, overstressed forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan. With her deeply quirky take, Belinda Bauer is totally unlike contemporaries, and all her crime novels have a very distinct identity. Readers never know what to expect with each new novel, except that it will be highly accomplished.”— Financial Times (UK)This ingenious and darkly comic mystery is an absolute delight and Felix is one of the most loveable fugitives ever created.' The only issues I had with this one was the slow burn. I was pretty bored on and off with this story and had trouble focusing because I felt like there was nothing happening. A below average thriller with a flimsy plot, mediocre writing and cliché characters. How this book ended up on the Man Booker Longlist is beyond me. Belinda Bauer grew up in England and South Africa and now lives in Wales. She worked as a journalist and a screenwriter before finally writing a book to appease her nagging mother. But just fifteen minutes later Felix is on the run from the police - after making the biggest mistake of his life.

It’s hard to understand how the Man Booker judges could have deemed Snap to be of sufficient depth or imagination to merit its inclusion. Thank you so much to Netgalley and Grove Atlantic for the opportunity to read this in exchange for my honest review.Finders Keepers, Bauer's third novel, was set in the fictional location of Shipcott, also in Exmoor. The book was published in Britain on 5 January 2012, and in the United States on 28 February 2012. I hope I’ve interested you enough that you will run and get this book as soon as it’s published, it’s that good!
