For one person and their wet gear, this tent is palatial. With two vestibules, you could easily store gear in vestibules and fit a couple. Just don’t plan on spreading out. Hyperlite builds the UltaMid 2 with Dyneema fabric, an extraordinarily durable material that withstands tons of abuse yet remains incredibly light. This tent, which uses trekking poles for support, weighs in at just 1.19 pounds for the main tent body. All returned items should be sent insured via recorded delivery to Dennis Williams, 9 Kingsmark, Freeway Euroway Trading Estate (west), Oakenshaw, Bradford, BD12 7HW. Please note that you will be responsible for the costs of returning the goods to us unless we delivered the item to you in error or the item is faulty. We do not collect goods.

The ventilation is ample even when the rainfly is on. There can be some vibration and flapping on the rainfly in the wind. And if you use this tent in the winter, make sure your sleeping bag is warm when it’s cold out. One of my favorite things about the Nemo Hornet Osmo Elite is the generous amount of durable and bug netting. Since it’s a double-wall tent, in good conditions you can choose to just set up the inner tent and still be bug free. It’s great for looking up at the stars. This was especially nice during warm nights camping in the Sierra, where I didn’t need a rain fly but most definitely wanted some bug netting to protect me. The first time I thru-hiked the Pacific Crest Trail, I cowboy camped and used a bug bivy on warm, dry nights. Setting up the Nemo Hornet Elite takes nearly the same amount of time for set-up yet gives so much more room to move around and feel like I can do my thing on buggy nights. Vestibules Double-wall designs are far more common for three-season or summer tents. Removable rain flies are a plus if all you need is a barrier from the mosquitos and you want to stargaze.

The biggest head-scratcher with this tent is the orientation of the zippers on the doors and fly; our testers found that it is just more challenging than it should be to get into and out of the Tiger Wall, especially in the rain. It's also a little pricey, though comparable to its close competitors. If you treat this tent nicely, it should offer you many years of lightweight, comfortable camping. There is a screen between the bathtub floor and the tent walls, which can be sloped downward by an elastic cord that keeps the bathtub elevated. This allows the condensation to run down the wall and fall through the sloping screen, as opposed to onto the floor. The bug netting mesh on the Nemo Hornet Elite is great for stargazing. The mesh, in addition to the tent body fabric, is made of 100% recycled material. I also liked that the Osmo rip-stop waterproof nylon fabric towards the floor extends upwards to create a semi-wall, especially on the side of the footbox. This means that your footbox won't get wet even when there is vertical rain, as I experienced in Joshua Tree and the High Sierra Trail. Dual Side entry Single-walled winter tents are notorious for barely making room for poles in the material to hold a taut exterior. Still, other tents need numerous guy lines to hold in place and aren’t freestanding without them. For 2023, the Hubba Hubba tent is available as a one-person, two-person, and three-person and includes some key improvements.

Other tent brands like the MSR Hubba NX use a perpendicular cross pole to add headspace and keep that tension, but I find that often that design is much harder to get the tension right. That system can be less than intuitive to know where to put what poles. I prefer Nemo’s simple and sleek yet well-thought-out system. The pre-bent Y-shaped poles make it easy to clip into the inner tent for a taut pitch. I also appreciated that the poles and clips are all color-coded to make setup intuitive. Dual doors The tent has a durable floor material made of 20D ripstop nylon and 1,200mm Durashield polyurethane, as well as a DWR treatment. Its symmetrical rectangular shape provides plenty of space for full-size sleeping pads. This is due to its rectangular design with offset trekking pole locations between a diagonal sleeping area. Without getting too much into the weeds of this mathematical layout, this effectively maximizes sleeping and vestibule space, utilizing a shape that handles wild wind and snow like a champ. With two large side doors and plenty of headroom, this lightweight tent is a great balance between comfort and weight We agreed that the light bar idea was overly clever and that we would probably never use it. Furthermore, you stuff the tent body into one bag, the fly into another, and the poles into the tube. This allows users to split the load or drop elements of the tent from the trip (as you can set up the fly without the body for ultralight use).

The UltaMid is one of the roomiest tents, with over 50 square feet of floor space and a 64-inch ceiling. The benefit of a traditional tent like the REI Co-op Arete is that it doesn’t have a pole through the center of it. Many tents offer footprints as an aftermarket add-on. A footprint is a piece of fabric that matches the shape of the tent floor. It often will clip into your tent poles or stake system to integrate with your setup under your tent. Colour Intensifiers/Correctors—6 shades (3 intensifiers, 3 correctors) for mixing with other shades to intensify or correct; After 20 years of experience, he has learned the value of a true tent. He still prefers to travel as light as possible, whether it is with a summer tent that fits in the palm of his hand or his zero-pound all-season tent for ski tours in the dead of winter. This tent boasts a good overlap between the bathtub floor and the rainfly, ensuring a dry night’s sleep. Above the floor material, quality mesh provides a breathable, well-ventilated space that should keep condensation low.

Each tent excels in one or more of these aspects, and we have awarded outstanding models “Best of Rating” corresponding to their outstanding qualities. So whether you are pinching pennies, are ready to splurge on the tent of your dreams, or just want to replace your tattered gear, we have found a tent that can fit your budget and needs. But the magic definitely doesn’t stop there. There’s been a lot of hype around NEMO’s proprietary OSMO polyester ripstop fabric — and for good reason. Boasting four times better water repellency and three times less stretch than previous iterations, this is a massive upgrade in overall quality and dependability. Like the Hornet Elite Osmo, the lightweight Dragonfly weathers gnarly storms like a champ, and will keep you snug as a bug when mother nature reveals her savage side. This tent can feel like a castle. With ample headroom and a generous bathtub floor, it offers plenty of space for two tapered 25-inch-wide sleeping pads. The massive double vestibules add even more living room, and are plenty big enough to cook in if the weather turns foul around dinner time. One of our testers was 6’2″, and she was able to easily sit up without hitting her head, and stretch out fully without touching the top and bottom of the tent. Vestibules are an important feature to have in inclement weather. They act as a miniature mudroom and provide space for gear storage.

It’s common to see ultralight and lightweight tents skimp on size to save weight, and the Nemo Hornet Osmo Elite could be bigger. But of the space it's got, it makes it almost all liveable space. The FlyBar reduces sagging, and the triangulated volumizing guy outs in the corners mean that even the areas near the walls are usable. Since it's a double-walled tent, you can get right up to the edge of the inner tent without worrying about condensation, meaning you can get all the way up to the sides of the tents. We love the Dragonfly, but it's not the widest model. The interior width is 50 inches, tapering to a tighter-feeling 45 inches at the feet. This tent is also a significant investment, so we think it's best for folks who already have a trip planned or know they will get a lot of use out of it. If you want more width than the Dragonfly offers, the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2 gives you a couple extra inches, although the taper is even slimmer at the feet. All things considered, the Dragonfly is exceptional for its balance of performance and weight — a combination that we would take with us on almost any adventure.
